Peter Dinklage in Netflix's Steps: New Trailer, Character and Release Date

Peter Dinklage is heading into a completely different kind of adventure. The Game of Thrones star is part of the voice cast of Netflix Animation's upcoming movie Steps, and a new teaser has just been released.

The animated fantasy comedy puts a surprising new spin on the classic Cinderella story and features an impressive voice cast including Peter Dinklage, Daniel Radcliffe, Amanda Seyfried, Ali Wong and Bette Midler.

Peter Dinklage Voices Roderick

In Steps, Peter Dinklage provides the voice of Roderick, a powerful and intimidating character described as a murderous man-nanny. The role gives Dinklage an opportunity to combine comedy, drama and a more unusual fantasy character.

According to Netflix's official information about the film, Roderick is one of the characters who helps make the world of Steps different from the traditional Cinderella story.

What Is Netflix's Steps About?

The movie takes place in the magical kingdom of Alouette and focuses on Cinderella's supposedly "evil" stepsisters rather than making Cinderella the only center of the story.

Lilith, voiced by Ali Wong, is tired of living in Cinderella's shadow. She steals the Fairy Godmother's magical wand and takes over the Royal Ball with her sister Margot, voiced by Stephanie Hsu.

Their decision changes the familiar fairy tale and creates a major problem for the kingdom. The sisters eventually have to work with Cinderella, voiced by Amanda Seyfried, on an adventure involving trolls, dangerous enemies and the mysterious Screaming Woods.

The First Steps Teaser Is Here

Netflix released the first teaser for Steps on September 17, 2026. The footage gives viewers their first substantial look at the animated world, its characters and the unusual direction of the story.

The teaser also highlights the film's colorful fantasy setting and its playful approach to the familiar Cinderella mythology.

Peter Dinklage and an All-Star Voice Cast

Peter Dinklage is joined by several well-known actors in the voice cast. Ali Wong voices Lilith, Stephanie Hsu voices Margot and Amanda Seyfried voices Cinderella.

Daniel Radcliffe provides the voice of the Prince, while Young Mazino voices Gef. Bette Midler plays the Fairy Godmother, and Nikki Glaser voices Priscilla.

The cast gives Steps a mixture of comedy, fantasy and adventure, making the movie a notable addition to Netflix's animated film lineup.

When Will Steps Be Released?

Steps is scheduled to premiere globally on Netflix on November 20, 2026.

That makes the movie one of Netflix's major animated releases for the 2026 holiday season. Netflix has also included Steps in its fall movie lineup.

Who Directed Steps?

The film is directed by Alyce Tzue and John Ripa. It is produced by Amy Poehler, Jane Hartwell and Kim Lessing, with Poehler and Lessing producing through Paper Kite Productions.

The screenplay was written by Ava Tramer, James Madejski, Jen Chuck, Dana Schwartz and Felicia Ho, based on a story credited to Tramer, Madejski, Schwartz, Ho, Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci.

Why Peter Dinklage's Role Is Interesting

Peter Dinklage has become closely associated with fantasy through his performance as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones. His role in Steps allows him to return to a fantasy setting while doing something completely different: creating a character through voice acting.

Roderick is also very different from Tyrion, giving audiences another opportunity to hear Dinklage in a comedic animated adventure.

Peter Dinklage's 2026 Projects

Steps is one of several projects keeping Peter Dinklage in the spotlight. He has also joined the cast of Alien: Earth Season 2, adding another major fantasy and science-fiction project to his upcoming work.

He is also attached to Naughty, a holiday comedy directed by Olivia Wilde, giving fans several different projects to follow.

Final Thoughts

The new Steps teaser gives Peter Dinklage fans their first look at another interesting role from the actor. His voice performance as Roderick is part of a fresh take on Cinderella that puts the stepsisters at the center of the adventure.

With the first teaser now available and the Netflix release date set for November 20, 2026, Steps is becoming one of Peter Dinklage's notable upcoming projects to watch.
